Gail Smith

March 15, 2023

Gail Smith, 78, passed away peacefully at the Sweetwater Healthcare Center on Thursday, March 9, 2023.

She was born in Brownfield to Grady and Edith Lovelady Craig on April 30, 1944.

Gail was a loving wife, mother and grandmother who enjoyed living life and being with her family. She was very strong willed and held true to her Christian faith. Some would say that she was a Bible beating, tambourine thumping Christian and she would profess her faith any chance she got. She was a kind-hearted woman who loved animals, especially her dogs. In her spare time she would breed cocker spaniels and sell them to pet shops where they would find loving families. She was a tremendous cook and loved to keep a spotless home for her family to enjoy. In her spare time she tried her hand at guitar and when that didn’t work she learned to play the accordion. Her warm smile, her good attempts at a great joke, and her tight embraces will be cherished by her family.

Gail is survived by her sons Michael Smith and wife, Candy, of Hamlin and Zach Smith of Scurry County; a daughter, Chere Smith of Colorado City; by grandchildren: Kayleigh McKay, Brettny Baxter, Lance Smith, Elijah Smith, Alexis Smith, and Kira Smith, and by great-grandchildren: Kamden McKay, Kinzliegh McKay, Brightyn Baxter, Myles Baxter, and Leighland Baxter. Also surviving is her brother Morris Craig of Ohio.

She was preceded in death by her parents; by her husband, Melvin Smith; by a son, Bryne Smith; a brother, Marshall Craig; and a sister, Marilyn McCright.

A funeral for Gail was held Wednesday, March 15, at the Kiker Seale Funeral Home Chapel at 10:00 a.m. with Pastor Larry Chaney officiating with burial following in the Colorado City Cemetery.

The family was present for a visitation on Tuesday, March 14, from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Kiker Seale Funeral Home.
