The following news items appeared in the Colorado City Record on June 8, 1911.
• A rattlesnake bit little Isaac, son of Mr. and Mrs. T.H. Zorn of Winston, on the foot.
• Mitchell County was getting ready to spend $8,000 on road improvements. Judge A.J. Coe said the count had bought six big teams of mules and horses, six wagons, a modern grader, and a complete camping outfit. Green DeLaney was to be the general foreman.
• A “big panther hunt” was staged at Westbrook with some of the boys of the community playing the part of the panther and leading Dr. C.L. Root, C.B. Cooper and other members of the Westbrook sporting club on a wild and fruitless night.
• Juliette Looney returned home from her school in Dallas, while Prof. R.B. Hood went to Canyon for summer school.

The following news items appeared in the Colorado City Record on June 13, 1941.
• Recognition for having the highest percentage of membership renewals and the greatest increase in membership of any Business and Professional Women’s Club in the state was won by the Colorado City club at the state convention of Business and Professional Women’s Clubs in Lubbock during the weekend. A plaque was awarded to the local club, which was also responsible for one of the three new clubs which won a loving cup for District 5 for having the largest increase in clubs during the past year.
• Condemnation committee to complete the securing of right-of-way for 5 miles of widening and other improvements on U.S. Highway 80 from the Mitchell-Howard line east toward Colorado City. Named to the committee were D.L. Buchanan, Tom Goss, Sr., and John Hale. Around 10 property owners are to be dealt with by the committee.
• New officers for their chapter and council were elected Monday night by local Masons. The two groups will be installed in a joint installation service with the lodge. Chapter officers elected were: High priest, James Herrington; King, A.B. Erwin; Scribe, M.C. Holt; Treasurer, H.E. Grantland; Secretary, Jim White; Guard, J.D. Sherwin. Council officers elected were: Thrice Illustrious Master, L.A. Costin; Deputy Master, C.E. Hammond; Illustrious Principle Conductor of the Work, A.K. McCarley; Treasurer, H.E. Grantland; Recorder, Jim White; Sentinel, J.D. Sherwin.

The following news items appeared in the Colorado City Record on June 6, 1976.
• Pond & Merrit Cleaners, 283 Walnut, celebrated its 52nd year of business in 1976. For the past 52 years, Pond & Merritt has been an integral part of the business scene in Mitchell County. In the 930s, Joe Pond left the business and then, in 1945, John Merritt, who had been working at Col-Tex Refinery, joined Jake Merritt in the operation of the firm. John became the sole owner in 1966.
• By noon Saturday, less than 100 persons had voted in Mitchell County in the Democratic primary run-off. Only two elections were on the ballot, a run-off between two candidates for railroad commissioner and between two candidates for an unexpired term as judge of court of criminal appeals.
• Mr. and Mrs. A.C. (Charles) Clark of 833 E. 14th Street, celebrated their Silver Wedding Anniversary, on June 5 at 2 p.m. in the home of Jim and Lou Hearin. The couple was married on June 5, 1951 in Hobbs, New Mexico. Clark works for J.O. Dockrey and Mrs. Clark works for Jim’s Trucktown Café.

The following news items appeared in the Colorado City Record on June 14, 2001.
• The biggest bass caught during last weekend’s Black Bass Open Tournament was an 8.16 pounder snagged by Rooney Lindsey, who won $303 for his catch. Chamber President Mike Jordan weighed in the fish. The top anglers in the tournament included Byrle Chapman of Colorado City, Jim Brock of Lubbock and Ronney Lindsey of Snyder.
• The Wolves varsity baseball team received some well-deserved recognition from the Texas High School Baseball Coaches Association last week. Earning all-state Class 2A honors were District 3-2A MVP Danny Torrez (Sr.), Tino Silva (Sr.), Chase Phariss (Sr.) and Jed Anderson (Jr.). The Wolves reached the regional semifinals this season.
• A local man improved his standing in the Colorado City Black Bass Open Tournament from sixth last year to first this year and his winnings from $40 to $2,000. Byrle Chapman turned in a stringer of fish weighing 14.62 pounds Saturday at the Railhead Trade Days Building to capture the top prize.
• An extremely powerful wind, although apparently not tornadic, blew four tractor trailer rigs and a small “box truck” off the north side of Interstate 20 between Colorado City and Loraine on Tuesday night. All five westbound trucks were blown over about the same time with the first call to the Mitchell County Sheriff’s Office at 8:52 p.m.

The following news items appeared in the Colorado City Record on June 9, 2016.
• The Colorado High School Lady Wolves softball team etched their name into the state’s sports history books this past weekend. And even deeper into their hometown’s hearts. The Lady Wolves capped a historic season by capturing state runner-up honors at the 2016 University Interscholastic League’s Softball State Championships. The team finished second in its first-ever appearance in the state tournament, which was held June 1-2 at Red and Charline McCombs Field in Austin. West spoiled Colorado City’s bid for a state title with an 11-0 win in the state finals.
• Jacob Walters, a 7th grade student at Westbrook Junior High, has earned a position on the Texas National Junior High Rodeo Team and will be traveling with teammates to Lebanon, Tennessee, on June 19-25 to compete in the 12th Annual National Junior High Finals Rodeo.
• According to Donna Overton, president of the Texas Animal Control Association, a case of rabies has been confirmed in a dog that was living in Loraine.
• One of Colorado City’s own has achieved success in a field that is much more of a lifestyle than a job. Anthony “Tony” Franco was ordained to the Sacred Order of the Priesthood in San Angelo last weekend. The Diocese of San Angelo celebrated Franco’s ordination on Friday, June 3, at the Sacred Heart Cathedral. Father Franco will serve at St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Midland as an associate pastor.
