Hospital to hold topping out ceremony
Have you ever been to a topping out ceremony? If not, you will have a chance to mark that off your bucket list on Friday, May 14th at the construction site of the new skilled nursing facility just east of Mitchell County Hospital and the new physical therapy addition to the hospital.
The hospital is hosting a topping out ceremony for the community to come and see what is happening at the hospital. Construction is in full swing at the new facility, along with the addition to the hospital of the new physical therapy department.
A topping out ceremony is traditionally held when the last beam (or its equivalent) is placed atop a structure during its construction.
The ceremony is being held in conjunction with National Hospital Week which is being celebrated May 9 – 15. National Hospital Week is set aside each year to highlight our hospitals, health systems and health care workers and the innovative ways they are supporting the needs of their community members, especially during this pandemic.
Recent rains have slowed down the work, but things are back in full swing now. Additional work had to be done to the pad of the physical therapy addition due to damage from the rains.
The event will take place a 11 a.m. on Friday, May 14 in the front parking lot of the hospital. After the ceremony, the public is invited stay and have lunch. Hamburgers will be served immediately following the ceremony.
