CCVFD battle two fires Monday morning

June 16, 2021

Monday blew in like a hot West Texas breeze for members of the Colorado City Volunteer Fire Department. A pair of early morning fires forced CCVFD members to spend much of June 14 scrambling to protect property.

Firefighters were called into action early Monday when a house fire was reported at approximately 2:45 a.m. in the 300 block of West 6th Street.

The Colorado City Volunteer Fire Department had a busy Monday morning fighting two fires within hours of each other. According to emergency responders, the residents of the house were not home at the time of the blaze. Although no injuries were reported, the two family pets were lost in the blaze. A total of three trucks and nine firefighters battled the blaze for more than three hours.

Abel Malano, his wife Lena and their son Israel live in the home. Clothing sizes for the family are: Abel wears size large shirt and 34-32 pants; Lena wears XL shirts and size 16 cloths and Israel ears XL shirts and 38-32 pants. If anyone would like to donate, you can drop the items off at the Colorado City Record for pickup by family members.

The Malano family will be staying with family in San Angelo for a while until they can find a home in Colorado City.

Shortly after dousing the first blaze, firefighters were called out again when, at about 7:15 a.m., a fire was reported in a Winnebago parked behind the Boost Mobile.

Initially, firefighters were concerned that an individual might have been in the recreational vehicle as it burned. Further investigation, however, revealed no one was inside.

The Winnebago was declared a total loss due to the blaze.

CCVFD officials have not determined the cause of the fires, but said both remain under investigation.
