Mitchell County residents could be eligible for new mortgage program

July 28, 2021

Residents of Mitchell County who have struggled to make their monthly mortgage payments due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic may find something going their way.

Cornerstone Community Action Agency was recently awarded a grant by the federal government designed to help residents struggling to make their mortgage payments by providing mortgage assistance to income-eligible households. According to CCAA representatives, the program can help pay up to six consecutive months of all, or part, of a mortgage payment, including mortgages in arrears.

CCAA representative Mayra Martinez said households whose income is at or below 80 percent of the Area media income level are eligible for the program, as are households that had a loss or reduction of income, or increased costs, during the pandemic.

Residents will need to provide a recent mortgage statement showing missed payments as well as proof of the home being their primary residence.

Complete details can be viewed online at www.cornerstonecaa.org/TEMAP. Applications are available by writing CCAA, 114 Needham Street, Coleman, Texas, 76834, or by emailing mortgage@ctoinc.org.

Martinez can be reached at 325-283-2020.
