Lelek continues to improve after treatment for disease

Barbie Lelek is a name many know in Colorado City. She taught Pre-School at Mother’s Day Out for years and was an active member of Calvary Baptist Church.
Barbie, who now lives in Lubbock, was recently struck with a terrible auto immune disease called Guillain-Barré (Ghee-YAN Bah-RAY) Syndrome. This disease attacks the sheaths surrounding the nerves and prohibits proper communication between nerves in the body, along with being very painful. Within one week she lost her ability to walk and also lost the use of her arms and fine motor skills.
Thankfully an immunoglobuline treatment stopped the progress of the disease and now she in a rehab hospital to hopefully fully recover all abilities.
Her husband, Tim said, “Barbie is improving some. This week she was able to put more weight on her legs and use her hands more. It will be a long, slow process, but she is making strides towards a full recovery.”
The website barbiesrecovery.com was developed to help friends send encouraging words to Barbie, purchase watercolor prints made by Barbie, or give a donation, which all helps with medical expenses.
The family also has an account set up at The City National Bank in Colorado City in her name for medical expenses if you would like to make a donation.
