Tonight - Cloudy. Areas of freezing fog in the evening. Areas of freezing drizzle in the evening, then a chance of freezing rain and sleet after midnight. Cold. Near steady temperature in the upper 20s. Northeast winds 10 to 15 mph. Chance of precipitation 40 percent.

Thursday - Mostly cloudy. A slight chance of thunderstorms, freezing rain and sleet in the morning. Not as cool with highs in the upper 30s. Northeast winds 10 to 15 mph. Chance of precipitation 20 percent.

Thursday Night - Partly cloudy in the evening, then becoming mostly cloudy. Cold with lows in the mid 20s. East winds 5 to 10 mph.

Friday - Mostly cloudy. Highs in the mid 30s. East winds 5 to 10 mph.

Friday Night - Mostly cloudy. A slight chance of freezing rain, snow and sleet after midnight. Cold with lows around 20. Chance of precipitation 20 percent.

Saturday - Mostly cloudy. A slight chance of snow in the morning. Cold with highs in the upper 20s. Chance of snow 20 percent.

Saturday Night - Mostly cloudy. Cold with lows around 10 above. Wind chill values as low as 5 below.

Sunday - Cloudy with a 50 percent chance of snow. Colder with highs around 15. Wind chill values as low as 5 below.

Sunday Night - Snow, cold with lows 5 to 10 above. Chance of snow 80 percent. Wind chill values as low as 10 below.

Monday - Mostly cloudy. A slight chance of snow in the morning. Cold with highs in the lower 20s. Chance of snow 20 percent. Wind chill values as low as 10 below in the morning.

Monday Night - Partly cloudy. Cold with lows around 10 above. Wind chill values as low as 5 below.

Some weather models are calling for 6" - 12" of snow in our area.

As you can see, it is not expected to get above freezing until possibly Tuesday, maybe Wednesday. Mitchell County residents are not used to these extreme temperatures and need to be reminded to layer up if you need to be outside any in the next several days. Any water pipes, hydrants, troughs will possibly freeze. Just a reminder to prepare ahead of time for possible utility outages, travel advisories and other problems that come from extremely cold weather.
