County Judge issues burn ban

January 04, 2022

Mitchell County Judge Mark Merrell issued a county-wide burn ban Tuesday, January 4, due to the dry conditions across Mitchell County.

All outdoor burning is prohibited in the unincorporated areas of the county for 30 days, unless restrictions are terminated earlier based on a determination made by the Texas Forest Service or Mitchell County Commissioners Court.

The order does not prohibit the burning of household trash as long as the trash is contained, and the top of the container is adequately covered to prevent sparks or embers from leaving the container.

Outdoor cooking is not prohibited as long as the cooker is covered and contained to prevent sparks or embers from leaving the container.

The burn ban can be lifted at any time during the 30-day period if the county receives significant rainfall.
